We know that talking about mental health and addiction can feel risky. Here's what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it, in plain English.

What we collect

  • Anonymous messages. The "Ask anonymously" box on our website doesn't save anything. It opens WhatsApp with your message. On WhatsApp, our team can see your phone number and what you send, the same as any WhatsApp chat.
  • Monthly letter. Your email address, if you sign up.
  • Podcast guest consent forms. Your full name, email, phone number, how you'd like to appear, your recording preferences, anything you've asked us not to mention, and your typed signature.
  • Spam protection. When you submit a form, we store a scrambled version of your internet address so we can block spam. It can't be turned back into your address.

We don't use advertising trackers or analytics cookies on this website.

How we use it

  • To reply to your messages.
  • To send the monthly letter, only if you asked for it.
  • To plan recordings with guests, respect their choices, and keep a record of what they agreed to.

We never sell your information or share it with anyone outside our small team, unless the law requires it or we believe someone's life is in immediate danger.

Where it's kept

Form submissions are stored securely with Cloudflare, which hosts this website. Emails and WhatsApp messages are kept in our Gmail and WhatsApp accounts. Only the people who run Merari can access them.

How long we keep it

  • Monthly letter: until you unsubscribe.
  • Guest consent forms: for as long as the episode is available, and up to two years after it's taken down, so we can show we had your permission.
  • If you withdraw before publishing: we delete the recording and your form.

Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it. Email merarifoundation@gmail.com and we'll reply within 30 days. If you're not happy with our response, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
